Domestic violence is thought to be perpetrated by those with certain personality disorders such as narcissism. Similarly, social factors such as grandiosity and lack of empathy (i.e. putting down and demeaning women) are sometimes encouraged in society. While material possessions and status are often overvalued, character traits such as humility and kindness are generally devalued. Accordingly, there is probably an upswing in emotional and physical abuse in our society, combined with a decrease in reporting due to the isolating nature of the pandemic.”
